Landis Media announces new data supply contracts - Jan 2008

In the tail end of 2007 some major contracts are being closed, we can only announce one of these at this time. We have agreed to supply PIE Maps our Petrol Stations data set. This is a significant event as it indicates the accuracy and completeness of our data.

Landis Media announce joint venture with UK PlaceFinder - Dec 2007

MD Howard Williams said: "We feel that UK PlaceFinder and our own brand work well together in the sat-nav space. With our free to consumer POI sites there was always a tension in selling even a very cheap product via that channel. Linking up with UK PlaceFinder has removed that. We will now be referring customers from our free to consumer POI sites to UK PlaceFinder and sharing in revenues."

Personal Computer Weekly (featured) - October 2007

We have had our Fleet & Low Bridge Solution picked up by the press who gave it a positive review:

"Another useful one - for those businesses involved with haulage at least - is the £18.99 low bridge database at www.tomtompoi.net. These are examples of databases of so-called “points of interest” or POIs, which are often stored in simple text files."  To read the full article click here

Landis Media Ltd - July 2007 we have successfully completed a number of consulting jobs with sat-nav systems. We are looking at the potentials of using sat-nav as a new consumer channel and are expanding our workforce.

Landis Media Ltd - June 2007 we presented at a national working group of parties interested in lorry road routing including Ordnance Survey, Oxford, Birmingham, Warwick County Councils and RHA and FTA. A number of very positive outcomes were identified.

Company Information

Landis Media Ltd - is the "group" company behind a number of related products and services. Our organisation has three main divisions -  GIS Consultancy, Sat-Nav Websites & Data Solutions / Services.

GIS Consultancy - with experienced consultants we provide supporting expertise for most GIS and Transport related areas. The services we can provide are very broad and include: procurement, tenders, policy, reviews as well as advice and implementation.

We have worked for central and local government as well as business, in areas that include:  Fleet Transport & Logistics, Environmental, Road User Charging, Tracking & Tracing, Surveying, Data Asset Capture Telematics, Geo Asset Management and  routing and navigation. Please contact us if you think we may be able to help you - see the Contact Us link at the top of the page.

Satellite Navigation Websites - we run a number of websites dedicated to sat nav devices. As these become mass consumer items, the range of functions and services are expanding rapidly. We believe that like the mobile phone, these units will become increasingly sophisticated. The age of mass market GIS is truly arrived - and that market demands complex and reliable applications and data. We provide that via these channels - with over 100,000 users of our POI data to date.

We have a proven delivery mechanism as well as the technical support and manuals required for such a mass use. Over time we will concentrate the data provided - and leverage our partners network to deliver accurate information. Anyone interested can see the websites (follow the link on the navbar or at the top of the page).

If you are thinking of using Sat-Nav data within your organisation please read our short guide

Data Solutions & Services -  we have a number of data products and assets. These provide information for the Websites that we run as well as specific product offerings. The most popular product is the rapidly expanding fleet & Low Bridge solution.

This meets the needs of a very large niche market by providing the only commercial offering for bridge avoidance on sat nav. With over 3,500 bridge locations included as well as other essential information such as truckstops, overnight lay-bys and parking. We lead the market in this area and have a strong team working closely with the industry to develop this area further.

These areas are being rapidly developed with another product due to be launched later this year into the mainstream market, as well as additions to the HGV and commercial vehicle areas, with our successful Keyfuels pack and others to follow. This is all made possible by using the latest technology and having a team of experts who are involved in the data collection and manipulation.

The Future

The next decade we will see sea change in the use and application of  personal navigation devices (PND's) such as Sat-Nav and GPS systems. A parallel can be drawn between the industry as it is today and the mobile phone marketplace in the mid 1990's. With the larger manufacturers scrambling for market share and some increasingly competitive pricing.

As users shift from screen mounted to built in and personal sat-nav  the market will change. Focus will be directed towards new revenue prospects from vertical markets: such as data and personal mapping. Just as mobile companies sought revenue from games and ring tones as handset sales stabilised.

Our short term strategy is to consolidate our market offerings into a series of well defined product areas, whilst continuing to innovate and develop new intellectual capital.

Our fast time to market and relatively low investment costs for new products has meant we can innovate rapidly and try new ideas with relatively small risk. We already own valuable Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and will be supplementing this over the coming year.

Partnership & Investment

To have the most effective reach within the market we rely on partner organisations for support and to help create solutions that offer the best that can be found. We are always interested in talking to possible partner organisations and collaborations.

We are well positioned with a number of key assets already operational and bringing in revenues; websites, software tools we have developed, geographic data assets as well as a wealth of operational experience.
